Soldering

Version 1.0

You can solder two different builds with version 1.0 PCBs (Jorian Christmas Edition):

  • Jorian Basic - recommended (uses CR2032 battery, lasts longer, Mitosis with extra keys)
  • Jorian RGB (LEDs + chargers + LIR2032) - not recommended (drains the battery, see Issues)

Mind that 03962A chargers don't have power selector so they don't work without the battery.

WARNING! 03962A charger needs replacing 1.2K resistor with 33K for 45 mAh (LIR2032) batteries!

Soldering

There are three parts: receiver and two keyboard halves. You can skip receiver if you're planning to use bluetooth firmware.

Receiver

I used BlueMicro nRF51 breakout PCB, YJ-14015 module and a regular 5V black Pro Micro.

  • Replace 5V regulator with 3.3V regulator (only if you're using 5V Pro Micro)
  • Solder 4 pins: VCC, GND, RX and TX (see mitosis/#10 for details)

Keyboard

  • Solder thumb and pinky parts with 2-row headers, make solder bridges to connect the parts
  • Solder battery holders (or battery pad jumpers if you want battery between the PCBs)
  • Solder the YJ-14015 Bluetooth modules
  • Solder battery OR Li-Po jumpers (both sides), solder i2c jumpers (facing up side)

Next steps are for Jorian RGB only

  • Solder LEDs (22 sk6812mini LEDs for each side, see pictures for the reference)
  • Solder 3.3V regulator (SOT23-5) and two 10 uF capacitors (see Kicad)
  • Solder charger jumpers on the bottom plate (left and right PCBs)
  • Solder charger jumpers on the top plate for the battery (left and right plates)
  • Solder chargers (03962A, file them if needed), solder B+ and B- pins
  • Solder top and bottom plates together via B+ and B- pins

Solder jumpers are kind of messed up in 1.0, solder as below (Li-Po charger version only):
